Delhi Kailash Hills murder case: Police to question accused’s family, probe expands

New Delhi: The investigation into the brutal rape and murder of a 22-year-old woman in South Delhi’s Kailash Hills has intensified, with Delhi Police planning to question family members of the accused, Rahul Meena.

Officials said crime and forensic teams have already conducted a reconstruction of the incident to understand how the accussed entered the residence and carried out the assault without being detected. The focus has now shifted to his background, including alleged financial troubles, phone usage patterns, and movements after the crime.

According to investigators, Meena’s family members, including his father based in Alwar and relatives in Gurugram, are expected to be questioned to piece together his circumstances before and after the incident. Police suspect mounting debt may have played a role in the crime.

In a key breakthrough, the victim’s mobile phone—reportedly taken by the accused—has been recovered from a location near East of Kailash. Officials said the accused disposed of it while fleeing the scene.

The Incident took place earlier this week when the victim was alone at home. Police allege that Meena gained access to the house using a spare keycard and confronted the woman, demanding money. When she refused, he allegedly assaulted her, leading to her death during the attack. He was arrested later the same day from a hotel in Dwarka.

Investigators revealed that after the crime, the accused changed clothes at the victim’s residence and attempted to evade identification. Evidence, including blood-stained garments, has since been recovered. He is also believed to have switched off his personal phone while on the run.

A senior officer said a psychological assessment will be conducted to evaluate his mental state and behavioural patterns, noting that he showed little remorse during questioning. Authorities are also mapping his escape route and actions post-crime through further reconstruction exercises.

The case has raised serious concerns over urban safety and security lapses, with police continuing their probe to ensure a comprehensive charge sheet.
