New Delhi | March 3, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held separate telephone conversations with Haitham bin Tarik of Oman and Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah of Kuwait, as the ongoing Iran-US confrontation continues to destabilize the wider Gulf region.
During the discussions, the Prime Minister conveyed concern over recent attacks reported in Gulf nations and emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and security of the large Indian diaspora living in the region. The conversations come amid expanding hostilities that have led to airspace closures and raised alarms over global oil supplies and energy infrastructure.
The outreach followed a day after Modi spoke with leaders of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Jordan, reiterating India’s call for immediate de-escalation and restoration of regional stability.
Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs expressed deep concern about the rapidly worsening security environment in Iran and across the Gulf. The government noted that the welfare of nearly one crore Indian nationals residing in various Middle Eastern countries remains a top priority.
On Monday, Modi had also spoken with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, condemning attacks on the two countries and stressing the urgent need to restore peace. He thanked the Saudi leadership for supporting the Indian community during the crisis.
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, and also held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar as part of India’s diplomatic efforts to monitor developments and safeguard its interests.
With casualties mounting in Iran and fresh strikes reported across parts of the Gulf and Israel, the conflict continues to cast uncertainty over the region, prompting heightened diplomatic engagement from New Delhi.
