New Delhi: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Thursday inaugurated the National IED Data Management System (NIDMS) developed by the National Security Guard (NSG). The launch was carried out through video conferencing in the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, intelligence agencies, central armed forces and state police leadership.

Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said that over the past six years, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has made sustained efforts to create, organise and integrate vast amounts of security-related data. He stated that NIDMS marks a crucial step forward and will serve as a next-generation protective framework against terrorism in the country.

The Home Minister said the new system will significantly enhance the investigation of terror incidents by enabling detailed analysis of explosive attacks, their methods, and evolving trends. He noted that earlier, critical data existed in isolated silos, but the focus is now on linking these databases through advanced artificial intelligence-driven platforms to strengthen national security.

Shah explained that NIDMS will function as a comprehensive, two-way digital platform accessible to agencies such as the National Investigation Agency, state Anti-Terrorism Squads, state police forces and all Central Armed Police Forces. Any incident involving IEDs or explosions anywhere in the country can be recorded on the platform, helping investigators draw insights and receive guidance during ongoing probes.

Highlighting the importance of NSG’s legacy data, the Home Minister said the force maintains records of bomb explosion cases dating back to 1999. Through NIDMS, this valuable repository will now be available to authorised agencies nationwide. The platform will help analyse patterns of attacks, identify common operating methods, study the types of explosives used and establish linkages between incidents across regions.

Describing NIDMS as a secure national digital infrastructure, Amit Shah said it will standardise and integrate IED-related information while ensuring safe and swift data sharing. He noted that the system will act as a single-point access interface, allowing investigators to retrieve critical information from multiple case files instantly, thereby saving time and improving operational efficiency.

The Home Minister said the initiative will deliver major benefits to internal security by transforming scattered departmental data into a shared national resource under the vision of ‘One Nation, One Data Repository’. This, he said, will improve coordination between agencies, accelerate investigations, enhance evidence-based prosecution and ensure that accurate information reaches the right authority at the right time.

Praising the National Security Guard,  Amit Shah called it one of the strongest pillars of India’s internal security framework. He said the NSG’s professionalism, courage and specialised expertise have ensured swift responses to terror threats, aircraft hijacking attempts and bomb disposal challenges. He described the NSG as a world-class, zero-error force that has consistently delivered results since its formation in 1984.

The Home Minister highlighted the numerous gallantry awards received by NSG personnel, including Ashok Chakras, Kirti Chakras, Shaurya Chakras, Police Medals and Sena Medals, as recognition of their extraordinary service to the nation.

He also spoke about the continuous modernisation of the NSG, noting that its regional hubs are operational in major cities such as Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad, with a new hub coming up in Ayodhya. Once operational, he said, the NSG will be able to respond to emergencies anywhere in the country within one to one-and-a-half hours.

Referring to wider digital integration in the criminal justice system,  Amit Shah said nearly all police stations in the country are now connected through CCTNS. He added that ICJS-2, based on the principle of ‘One Data–One Entry’, is emerging as an advanced data-sharing ecosystem, integrating courts, prisons, prosecution, forensic laboratories and fingerprint databases. NIDMS will become an important component of this framework.

Concluding his address, the Home Minister said that by leveraging artificial intelligence and interconnected databases, NIDMS will contribute to building a powerful and resilient national security grid capable of countering terrorism more effectively.
