Faridabad: With dense fog significantly reducing visibility on roads and increasing the likelihood of accidents, the Faridabad Traffic Police have issued a traffic advisory urging motorists to remain extra cautious. Joint Commissioner of Police Rajesh Duggal said that foggy conditions demand heightened alertness and responsible driving. He advised commuters to check weather forecasts before travel and remain updated through the Meteorological Department, Google Maps, traffic alerts and other digital platforms. “If a fog warning is issued, travel should be postponed until visibility improves and undertaken only in unavoidable circumstances,” he said. JCP Rajesh Duggal emphasised that vehicles should be driven at slow and controlled speeds in accordance with road conditions. He advised the use of low-beam headlights, stating that high beams reflect off fog particles and further reduce visibility. Fog lights, if available, should be used along with low beams, and all vehicle lights must be kept functional. “Maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles is crucial, as extra braking distance is required in foggy conditions,” he said, adding that drivers should avoid unnecessary lane changes and overtaking. Motorists were also advised to use lane markings and the left edge of the road as visual guides and to minimise distractions such as mobile phones and loud music. He further advised keeping windshields and mirrors clean and using defrosters and wipers to maximise visibility. “If fog becomes extremely dense and driving is unsafe, vehicles should be moved completely off the road and parked at a safe location,” the JCP said. Cautioning against unsafe practices, JCP Rajesh Duggal said motorists should never stop on the moving portion of the road, as it may result in chain collisions, and should not suddenly increase speed even if fog appears to be clearing. Appealing to the public, he said, “By following the traffic advisory and driving responsibly during foggy conditions, accidents can be prevented.” He reiterated that Faridabad Police are fully committed to public service, safety and cooperation.
