New Delhi:Akashvani (All India Radio) currently operates 591 broadcasting stations across India, significantly expanding the reach of public radio services nationwide, the Lok Sabha was informed on 17 December 2025.
Out of the total stations, 230 Akashvani Kendras are equipped with studio facilities for the production and broadcasting of original programmes. The remaining 361 stations function as relay stations, rebroadcasting content from other Akashvani Kendras to ensure wider coverage, especially in remote and underserved areas.
The state-wise details of Akashvani broadcasting stations are available on the official Prasar Bharati website.
As part of efforts to enhance regional outreach, a 100-watt FM Relay Station at Bhilwara, commissioned on 28 April 2023, currently relays the Vividh Bharati Service. Meanwhile, Akashvani Udaipur is equipped with full studio facilities and produces programmes for a local window on the Vividh Bharati FM service, catering to regional audiences.
Prasar Bharati has established relay stations, including Akashvani Bhilwara, across the country with the mandate to rebroadcast programmes produced by other Akashvani stations. This model ensures optimal utilisation of technical and human resources, maintains programme quality, and maximises the public reach of national broadcasting.
The information was provided by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Dr. L. Murugan, in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.
