Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Pays Floral Tributes to Former Speaker Manohar Joshi on Birth Anniversary

New Delhi, 02 December 2025:Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla led the House in paying rich floral tributes to Manohar Joshi, former Speaker of the Lok Sabha, on his birth anniversary. The solemn ceremony was held in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, where Members of Parliament, former Members, and senior officials gathered to honour the memory of the veteran leader and statesman.

Om Birla offered floral tributes at the portrait of Joshi, recalling his distinguished service and dignified leadership during his tenure as the Speaker of the Lower House from 2002 to 2004. Birla noted that Shri Joshi set high standards of parliamentary conduct and upheld the traditions of the House with firmness and impartiality.

Several Members of Parliament and former MPs also paid their respects. The Secretary-General of Lok Sabha, Utpal Kumar Singh, along with other dignitaries and officials, was present during the ceremony, reflecting the wide respect Joshi commands even after his passing. The gathering symbolised a collective acknowledgement of his contribution to the strengthening of parliamentary democracy in India.

Marking the occasion, the Parliament Library arranged a special exhibition in the Central Hall, featuring books on the life, political journey, and parliamentary work of Manohar Joshi. These works highlight his rise from grassroots politics in Maharashtra to national prominence, including his roles as Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Union Minister, and later as Speaker of the Lok Sabha. The display allowed members and visitors to revisit his significant contributions to public service, governance, and parliamentary procedures.

Manohar Joshi, a senior leader known for his administrative acumen and disciplined approach, is remembered for presiding over the House with a balanced and reasoned approach. His tenure was marked by efforts to ensure smooth functioning of parliamentary proceedings and encourage constructive debate. Colleagues often describe him as a leader with exceptional composure, courtesy, and commitment to democratic values.

The commemorative ceremony not only honoured Joshi’s legacy but also served as a reminder of the vital role played by Speakers in maintaining the dignity and decorum of the Lok Sabha.
