Ministry of Railways Celebrates 150 Years of “Vande Mataram” with Great Fervour

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Leads the Celebration at Rail Bhawan; Programmes Held Across Railway Zones Nationwide

New Delhi, November 7, 2025 — The Ministry of Railways today joined the nation in commemorating the 150th anniversary of the national song “Vande Mataram” with patriotic enthusiasm and unity. A special event, organized at Rail Bhawan in line with the Ministry of Culture’s nationwide celebration, was graced by Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT,  Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with senior Railway Board officials including Member (T&RS) R. Rajagopal and Secretary Smt. Aruna Nayar.

The ceremony featured a mass singing of “Vande Mataram, held in sync with the main programme organized by the Ministry of Culture. Following the rendition, participants attentively listened to the address of  Prime Minister Narendra Modi, broadcast live across all railway units.

Speaking on the occasion, Ashwini Vaishnaw described “Vande Mataram” as “the proclamation of India’s consciousness for the past 150 years.”

“Vande Mataram… the echo of India’s awakening for one and a half centuries,” he stated in a social media post, expressing deep reverence for the song’s historic significance.

The celebration extended far beyond the capital, with similar programmes conducted across various railway zones and divisions.

At Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), the Central Railway hosted a grand patriotic event attended by General Manager Vijay Kumar, where the powerful chorus of “Vande Mataram” reverberated through the station, symbolizing unity and devotion to the motherland.

The South Central Railway also observed the occasion at Rail Nilayam, where General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, alongside the Additional General Manager, senior officers, and staff, took part in the rendition. The melody of “Vande Mataram” filled the premises, echoing generations of pride and sacrifice.

Similarly, the Northern Railway organized a special event at the office of the Chief Public Relations Officer, where officers and staff came together to collectively sing the national song, reaffirming their commitment to national unity and service.

Composed by Bankimchandra Chatterjee in 1875, “Vande Mataram” has served as an enduring symbol of India’s freedom movement and continues to inspire countless citizens with its message of patriotism, pride, and togetherness.

Through these celebrations, the Ministry of Railways paid a heartfelt tribute to the timeless anthem that binds the nation in shared emotion and purpose, reaffirming its dedication to India’s cultural identity and spirit of service.
