Following Months to Witness a Monumental Revamp” : Scindia Announces Major Modernisation Drive for India Post

New Delhi : Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, chaired a four-hour-long Quarterly Review Business Meet 2025–26 with all 23 Postal Circles of the Department of Posts in New Delhi today. This was the second such meeting, following the first session held on 15 July 2025, which had set the tone for a performance-driven and innovation-led transformation across the organisation.

Emphasising technology as a key enabler, Scindia underscored the need to expand the positive impact of IT 2.0 on the Citizen Centric Services and POSB systems to other operational verticals, with new product introductions planned for January and March 2026. He highlighted the importance of strengthening parcels and mails, which must together account for at least 75% of total revenue, reinforcing India Post’s transformation into a modern logistics organisation.

The Minister directed that monthly reviews be conducted by each Chief Postmaster General (CPMG) across their circles, with the 6 vertical heads of the department of Posts namely Parcel, Mail, International Mail and Global Businesses, RPLI/PLI, Citizen Centric Services and POSB. He encouraged all officers to actively engage in peer learning and cross-fertilisation of ideas, remarking that they are not just officers but CEOs running a business.

Scindia also urged all circles to undertake competition and value-chain analyses to benchmark their operations against private players, thereby driving efficiency and innovation. He emphasised the need for new business generation and a diversified revenue profile, targeting a 20:80 ratio of government to private sector business over the next five years. He called for a special focus on expanding the ECR (Expenditure Coverage Ratio) in nine states, including Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, the North Eastern Region, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat and West Bengal.

Recognising the pivotal role of Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS), the Minister stressed that their contributions must be acknowledged and rewarded, and that their success stories should be shared widely.

Driving Modernisation and Building a Future-Ready India Post
Speaking on the Department’s ongoing modernisation, Scindia announced an ambitious transformation drive: “In the next couple of months, we are embarking on a monumental revamp of India Post, modernising infrastructure across states, scaling up Project Arrow to a new level, and positioning India Post as a world-class logistics organisation focused on parcels, domestic and international mail.”

Reaffirming the spirit of “Dak Sewa, Jan Sewa”, the Minister emphasised the importance of collaboration and open communication within the organisation. “It’s imperative that we meet often, share best practices, and unabashedly bring forward areas where we face challenges so that others can help us find solutions,” he said.

Concluding the meeting, Scindia urged all participants to embody the spirit of Viksit Bharat, being Vocal for Local and driving Local to Global. “My job is to take our CPMGs out of their comfort zones. Together, we must ensure that India Post continues its journey as a citizen-first, service-driven organisation,” he remarked.
