New Delhi, October 02, 2025 – On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation,  Amit Shah, visited the Khadi India showroom at Connaught Place, New Delhi, where he purchased Khadi products through online payment.

Shah said that Mahatma Gandhi recognized the “soul of India” and mobilized the common people against British rule by weaving Khadi and Swadeshi into the freedom movement. He emphasized that these two ideas not only accelerated independence but also brought dignity and livelihood to millions of poor families.

The Home Minister recalled that in 2003, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was Chief Minister of Gujarat, he launched a campaign to revive Khadi. Since then, the sector has witnessed transformative growth. Under Modi’s leadership, sales of Khadi and village industry products have risen fivefold—from ₹33,000 crore to more than ₹1.7 lakh crore in 11 years.

Highlighting the role of Mann Ki Baat in popularizing Swadeshi, Shah said millions of families now prefer indigenous products, while shopkeepers across the country are increasingly rejecting foreign goods.

Appealing to citizens, Shah urged every family to purchase Khadi worth at least ₹5,000 annually. “This simple step can provide employment to millions and bring light into their homes,” he said. He further stressed that adopting Swadeshi is in line with India’s goal to become a global leader by 2047, and urged people to make Khadi and Swadeshi a way of life for future generations.
