PM expresses grief over Sambhal tragedy; ₹50,000 aid announced for injured victims from PMNRF

Uttar Pradesh, 05 July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed deep sorrow over a tragic road accident in Uttar Pradesh‘s Sambhal district that claimed the lives of five people and left several others injured. The incident occurred on Friday evening when a car carrying members of a wedding procession crashed into a wall in the Junawai area.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in an accident in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the mishap. May the injured recover soon.” He also announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased. Additionally, ₹50,000 will be provided to each of the injured.

The accident took place around 7:30 pm when a Bolero Neo vehicle, part of a wedding convoy, rammed into the boundary wall of Janta Inter College in Junawai. According to Sambhal Superintendent of Police KK Bishnoi, the car was carrying members of a wedding party, including the groom, who was on his way to his wedding.

“Police received information at around 7:30 pm that a Bolero Neo had collided with the wall of Janta Inter College. A police team immediately reached the spot and removed the vehicle with the help of a JCB machine,” Bishnoi said.

The impact of the crash was severe. Five people lost their lives on the spot, while five others sustained serious injuries and were referred to a hospital in Aligarh for advanced treatment. All the victims were residents of Hargovind village under the Junawai police station area.

Initial investigations point to driver error as the likely cause of the crash. “It appears that the accident happened due to a mistake by the driver,” the SP added. Further investigation into the incident is underway.

The tragedy has cast a pall over the wedding celebrations, turning what was meant to be a joyous occasion into a scene of mourning.
