Chhattisgarh CM implements Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Crime & Narcotics

Raipur, 10 Feb 2024- Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister, Vishnu Deo Sai, has declared a zero-tolerance stance against crime and narcotics in the state. In a recent meeting held at the Police Headquarters in Nava Raipur, Sai emphasized the importance of cracking down on illegal activities and warned police officials of stringent actions if they fail to curb criminal behavior.

Sai stressed that it is imperative for Superintendents of Police (SPs) to take decisive measures in their respective districts to tackle crime effectively. He highlighted the need for a balance in policing, where criminals should fear the law enforcement while the general public holds respect for them, akin to the reverence they have for the armed forces.

The Chief Minister also expressed concern over social vices such as illegal liquor trade, gambling, and betting, particularly noting their detrimental effects on the youth. He instructed officers that failure to prevent criminal activities would result in accountability measures being taken against the concerned SPs and police station-level officers.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by police personnel, especially in Maoist-affected regions, Sai assured unwavering support from the state government. He affirmed that necessary steps have been taken to ensure the welfare of the police force.

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, responsible for the home portfolio, revealed a significant increase of 16 percent in the allocation for the home department in the state budget. This increase encompasses provisions for essentials like ration bags and spike-resistant shoes for jawans engaged in anti-Naxalite operations, as well as enhancements in facilities for departmental officers and employees.

The meeting, attended by Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain, Director General of Police Ashok Juneja, and other senior police officials, underscored the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order while safeguarding public welfare.
