PM Narendra Modi Addresses Women’s Safety Concerns Amid Outrage Over Kolkata Rape-Murder Case

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized the importance of swift justice in cases involving crimes against women, stating that faster legal proceedings can significantly enhance women’s sense of security. His comments come in the wake of widespread outrage over several recent incidents of violence against women, including the alleged rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, as well as the sexual assault of two kindergarten girls in Thane.

Speaking at the inaugural session of a national conference of the district judiciary, which was also attended by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Modi highlighted the growing societal concerns regarding the safety of women and children. He underscored that ensuring quick and decisive justice in cases of atrocities against women is crucial for fostering a sense of security among half of the country’s population.

“Today, atrocities against women and the safety of children are serious concerns of society,” Modi stated. “The faster justice is delivered in cases of atrocities against women, the greater assurance half of the population will have about their safety.”

The Prime Minister’s remarks reflect the government’s recognition of the urgent need to address gender-based violence and the importance of the judiciary’s role in delivering timely justice. The Kolkata case, in particular, has sparked significant public outrage, drawing attention to the broader issue of women’s safety in India and the necessity of legal reforms to ensure better protection for women.
