Guwahati, Jan 03 , 2024– In a devastating incident today, a collision between a bus and a truck in Balijan village, Golaghat district, Assam, resulted in the loss of 12 lives and left 7 others injured. The accident occurred when a bus, en route from Golaghat Bachagaon to Tinsukia for a picnic, collided head-on with a truck traveling in the opposite direction.

The Golaghat District Commissioner, P. Uday Prabin, informed the media that the ill-fated bus was carrying 49 passengers. An investigation into the accident is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the collision.
Government Response: Expressing his grief over the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced financial assistance for the victims’ families. “Pained by the loss of lives due to a road mishap in Golaghat, Assam. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000,” Modi tweeted.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also extended condolences and assured support to the affected families. “I expressed my deep anguish at the horrific bus accident in Dergaon and offer my condolences to the bereaved families. The local administration is providing all necessary support to the injured in this difficult hour. Prayers for their swift recovery,” Sarma stated.
