Rohit Sharma Reveals ODI World Cup 2027 Plans After Champions Trophy 2025 Triumph

New Delhi : India captain Rohit Sharma has put an end to retirement speculations following India’s Champions Trophy 2025 triumph, confirming that he is not stepping away from ODI cricket anytime soon. The 37-year-old opener, who led India to their third Champions Trophy title on March 9, stated that he is keeping his options open regarding the 2027 ODI World Cup but is not thinking too far ahead at the moment.

Speaking on his future plans, Rohit said, “It’s very hard to say that right now. But I’m keeping all my options open. I want to see how well I’m playing. Right now, I’m playing really well, and I’m enjoying everything I’m doing with this team.” He acknowledged that while the 2027 World Cup is still over two-and-a-half years away, his participation will depend on his form and fitness.

Rohit also emphasized that he will continue to play as long as he enjoys the game and feels that the team benefits from his presence. “As long as I’m enjoying the sport and what I’m doing for this team, I will continue to play. There’s so much pride in representing India, and I don’t want to leave this team,” he added.

The seasoned batsman also expressed joy in playing alongside the current squad, stating that the team spirit and camaraderie are at an all-time high. “The way we are playing at this point in time, there’s so much joy and fun. I love being part of this team.”

With the Champions Trophy victory, Rohit has now become only the second Indian captain after MS Dhoni to lead India to two ICC titles. Under his leadership, India won the T20 World Cup 2024, ending an 11-year ICC trophy drought, followed by their latest ODI title win in the Champions Trophy 2025.

Rohit’s recent performances in international cricket have reaffirmed his value as a leader and batsman, making him an integral part of India’s future campaigns. While the 2027 ODI World Cup remains uncertain, his commitment to the team in the near future is clear. His next major challenge will be guiding India through upcoming international fixtures, including the highly anticipated World Test Championship matches and the 2026 T20 World Cup.
