Dubai : In Men’s Cricket, India stormed into the final of the ICC Champions Trophy, defeating Australia by four wickets in Dubai this evening. The thrilling encounter saw the Men in Blue successfully chase down a target of 265 runs set by Australia, reaching 267 for six in 48.1 overs in the first semi-final of the tournament.
Virat Kohli led India’s batting with a stellar 84 off 98 balls, anchoring the chase with composure and precision. Shreyas Iyer contributed a steady 45 off 62 balls, while KL Rahul played an aggressive knock of 42 off 34 balls. Hardik Pandya’s quickfire 28 from 24 balls provided a crucial push in the middle overs. The Australian bowling attack, led by Nathan Ellis and Adam Zampa with two wickets each, attempted to contain the Indian batting lineup, while Cooper Connolly and Ben Dwarshuis chipped in with one wicket apiece.
Earlier, Australia opted to bat first but was bowled out for 264 runs with three balls to spare, owing to India’s disciplined bowling performance. Skipper Steven Smith top-scored for Australia with a resilient 73 off 96 balls, while Alex Carey provided a late flourish with 61 off 57 balls. Travis Head also made a valuable contribution, scoring 39 off 33 balls.
India’s bowlers delivered a collective effort, with Mohammed Shami emerging as the standout performer, taking three wickets. Varun Chakravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja were instrumental, securing two wickets each. Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya also contributed with a wicket apiece, ensuring Australia never got a chance to dominate.
