Ahmedabad, Feb 12,2025: India’s young batting sensation Shubman Gill has etched his name in the history books by becoming the first Indian cricketer to score a century in his 50th ODI match. The landmark was achieved during India’s ongoing clash with England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
Gill also set a new record as the fastest player to score seven ODI centuries in terms of innings, further cementing his dominance in the format. The elegant right-hander crafted a composed innings before accelerating to his hundred, showcasing his adaptability on a pitch that provided movement early on.
With this century, Gill joined an exclusive list of cricketers who have scored a hundred at a single venue across all three international formats. This feat has previously been accomplished by Faf du Plessis (Wanderers, Johannesburg), David Warner (Adelaide Oval), Babar Azam (National Stadium, Karachi), and Quinton de Kock (Supersport Park, Centurion).
Notably, the 24-year-old has also registered an IPL century at this very venue, further strengthening his claim as “Ahmedabad ka Raja” (Ruler of Ahmedabad).
Gill reached his century in style, flicking a length delivery from Mark Wood past mid-on for a boundary in the 32nd over. As he completed his hundred, he raised his bat in celebration, removing his helmet and bowing to the crowd, who erupted in applause. His teammates stood in acknowledgment of yet another significant milestone in his blossoming career
