Rahul Gandhi Meets Families of Patients Amid Rising Disease Burden and Severe Cold Outside AIIMS

New Delhi : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited the families of patients camped outside the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. Expressing concern over their plight, he condemned the insensitivity of both the central and Delhi governments, as patients and their families continue to endure freezing cold while waiting for medical treatment.

In a post on social media, Gandhi shared his frustration, stating, “Burden of disease, biting cold, and government insensitivity – today I met patients and their families outside AIIMS who have come from far and wide in search of treatment. On their path to get treatment, they are forced to sleep on roads, footpaths, and subways – just keeping a flame of hope burning amidst the cold ground, hunger, and inconveniences.” He added that both the Centre and the Delhi government had failed to meet their responsibilities towards the public, leaving these families to fend for themselves in deplorable conditions.

Pawan Kumar, a father whose 13-year-old daughter is undergoing treatment for blood cancer at AIIMS, spoke to ANI about the difficult circumstances. The family had arrived at the hospital on December 3, yet they had not received proper treatment. “Rahul Gandhi asked for my phone number and said that his team would contact me to assist in any way possible,” Kumar shared. His wife also noted that the Congress MP promised financial support to help with their daughter’s treatment.

The situation outside AIIMS is a reflection of the broader issues faced by many across the country, where access to healthcare is often limited by both infrastructure and bureaucratic hurdles. Families are left to endure the harsh conditions while waiting for long periods to get medical care.

Gandhi’s visit highlighted the disconnect between the government’s promises and the reality on the ground. The families outside AIIMS are calling for immediate intervention to address the growing healthcare crisis and provide basic facilities for patients in need.
