New Delhi, March 7: Marking Jan Aushadhi Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that every citizen has access to affordable and high-quality medicines.
In his message on the occasion, the Prime Minister emphasized that making essential medicines accessible at reasonable prices remains a key priority of the government’s healthcare agenda.
Modi highlighted the role of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana in reducing healthcare costs for millions of people across the country. Under the initiative, special outlets known as Jan Aushadhi Kendras provide generic medicines at significantly lower prices compared to branded drugs.
The network of these centres has expanded steadily across India, enabling patients to obtain quality medicines without putting financial pressure on families.
According to the Prime Minister, the initiative reflects the government’s broader effort to make healthcare more inclusive and accessible. He noted that affordable medicines play a crucial role in ensuring that even economically weaker sections of society receive timely treatment.
The government continues to strengthen the scheme by increasing the number of Jan Aushadhi stores and widening the range of medicines available through them, helping people save significantly on medical expenses.
