New Delhi : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast hot and humid conditions at isolated locations across multiple southern and coastal regions of the country, including Konkan, Goa, Kerala, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Yanam. These weather conditions are expected to persist throughout the day, causing discomfort due to rising temperatures and high moisture levels.
Additionally, the IMD has indicated that hot and humid weather will continue in the Gujarat region and Kerala, until tomorrow. Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions, such as staying hydrated, avoiding direct exposure to the sun during peak hours, and wearing light clothing to cope with the rising heat index.
Meanwhile, northeastern states are also set to witness significant weather changes. The IMD has issued a forecast for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in several areas, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and Sikkim. These weather disturbances could bring strong winds, heavy rainfall, and possible disruptions to daily activities. Authorities have urged residents to stay cautious, especially in hilly and low-lying regions prone to landslides and waterlogging.
The weather department continues to monitor the evolving conditions and has advised fishermen and travelers in coastal regions to stay updated with local advisories. The combination of extreme heat in the south and thunderstorms in the northeast reflects the transitional nature of weather patterns as India moves toward seasonal changes.
Experts suggest that the rising temperatures in southern and coastal India could be attributed to a combination of factors, including weak sea breezes, moisture-laden winds, and clear skies, which allow maximum solar radiation to reach the surface. The humidity further intensifies the discomfort, making conditions particularly challenging for outdoor workers and vulnerable populations.
In contrast, the thunderstorms in the northeastern states are primarily driven by strong easterly winds and localized convective activity. Such weather conditions are typical during seasonal shifts and can result in short but intense spells of rain and lightning.
Residents in affected areas are encouraged to take necessary precautions, such as securing outdoor objects, avoiding open fields during thunderstorms, and staying indoors in case of severe lightning activity. The IMD continues to issue regular updates and advisories to help people navigate these weather fluctuations safely.
