Bhalswa EWS Housing Project received a major push on Thursday as Delhi Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood inspected the ongoing renovation and expansion work at the housing complex, reaffirming the government’s commitment to providing modern and dignified homes for economically weaker families.

Delhi Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood on Thursday inspected the ongoing renovation and expansion work at the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) housing project in Bhalswa, reaffirming the government’s commitment to providing improved housing for families living in slum clusters across the national capital.
During the visit, the minister reviewed the progress of construction activities, including the enhancement of flat layouts and interior improvements aimed at making the homes more spacious and suitable for modern living. He said the upgraded housing project reflects the government’s focus on ensuring better living standards for economically weaker sections.Sood noted that the existing residential units are being redesigned by extending their usable area by around four to five square metres, enabling more efficient use of available infrastructure while improving comfort for future residents. The redesigned homes are being developed on the lines of the standards adopted under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY).

The minister said the Bhalswa project includes more than 7,400 housing units, making it one of the major affordable housing initiatives currently underway in Delhi. He added that officials have been instructed to ensure quality construction, adequate room sizes and durable flooring before the flats are handed over.Recalling his earlier inspection of the project, Sood said directions had already been issued to increase the carpet area of the flats so beneficiaries receive homes that offer a more dignified living environment.
He also stated that the allotment process will be carried out in a phased manner after all technical and administrative formalities are completed. A final inspection of the project will be conducted jointly with the Chief Minister before the government seeks further guidance from senior leadership ahead of distribution.Highlighting the government’s approach, Sood said the focus is on completing the project without unnecessary delays while ensuring that public resources are used efficiently. He added that the upgraded EWS flats are intended to fulfil the government’s commitment to providing safe, modern and affordable housing for eligible families in Delhi.
