New Delhi, 02 June: Minister for Social Welfare, SC/ST Welfare, Elections and Cooperation, Shri Ravinder Indraj Singh, held a review meeting with officials of the Social Welfare Department on Monday to assess the progress of ongoing awareness programs and the anti-drug campaign being conducted in the run-up to the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in June. Minister gave directions for organizing a grand state-level event, using audio-visual mediums for mass outreach, and conducting district-level programs.
Officials from the Social Welfare Department informed that wide-ranging efforts will be made to increase awareness under the anti-drug campaign with public and media support. Plans include jingle broadcasts on FM channels, use of audio-visual media at strategic locations, and street plays at 64 selected hotspots across Delhi. Awareness messages will also be broadcast in cinema halls. Preparations for these initiatives are in the final stages. NSS and NCC students will also be actively involved in the campaign.
With the support of District Social Welfare Offices and District Education Offices, posters, pamphlets, and booklets will be distributed in schools and colleges. Awareness runs will be held at the district level.
The Social Welfare Minister directed that June 26, International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, be commemorated through awareness activities organized by all District Social Welfare Offices. He emphasized supporting individuals trapped in addiction by providing skill training and rehabilitation so they can lead healthy and self-reliant lives. He also instructed coordination with other relevant departments to play a significant role in making Delhi drug-free.
