Sonu Nigam Honored to Perform at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Stays Overnight in the Presence of President Murmu

Delhi, Feb 04, 2025: Sonu Nigam’s performance at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 3, 2025, as part of the Rashtrapati Bhavan Diwas celebrations, was an unforgettable and emotional experience for the renowned singer. Performing at the newly inaugurated Open Air Theatre in the President’s Estate, Sonu had the unique honor of singing in front of President Droupadi Murmu, who not only witnessed the performance but also engaged in a personal conversation with the artist.

Reflecting on the moment, Sonu expressed his deep gratitude and joy, saying, “As an Indian, being invited to perform on the Rashtrapati Bhavan Diwas, and to do so in front of the President of India, was overwhelming. The experience was made even more special because I had a chance to have a one-on-one interaction with her, which I will cherish forever.” The evening was a milestone for the singer, as he was the first artist to perform at the newly constructed amphitheatre. “It’s truly a stroke of good fortune to be the first one to perform in this space. The occasion was even more memorable as my family was invited as well. My father, the legendary Agam Kumar Nigam, my sister Meenal Nigam, who is both a singer and yoga guru, and my brother-in-law Sumit were all present to share this moment,” Sonu shared with a sense of pride.

Speaking about his interaction with President Murmu, Sonu said, “Our President is such a warm and gracious person. From the very start, she made us feel at ease. Normally, you’d be naturally reserved and cautious in front of the President, but she immediately broke the ice by bringing up my musical journey and reminiscing about my days on Sa Re Ga Ma. She spoke about how I have represented India internationally, which felt incredibly rewarding and humbling.”

Sonu further shared how this performance was especially significant as he performed alongside his family, marking a personal milestone. “It was the first time I performed with my father and sister on the same stage. To have the three Nigams perform together in front of the President was an emotional moment. The performance ended with us on stage together, and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect ending. I truly feel blessed.”

Though the evening was filled with joy, it wasn’t without its challenges. “Before the performance, I was dealing with an acute back spasm and wasn’t feeling at my best,” Sonu admitted. “However, the President’s doctor kindly attended to me for about 45 minutes before the show, and I felt much better afterward. Thanks to their care, I was able to deliver a performance that received so much love from the audience.”

After the show, Sonu and his family were treated to a tour of the Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum, where he was pleasantly surprised to find a picture of himself receiving the Padma Shri in the prestigious Padma Awards section, which featured only twelve photos. “It was a beautiful surprise to see that picture among such an iconic collection,” Sonu remarked.

The night took a special turn when Sonu and his family were invited to dine at the Rashtrapati Bhavan and spend the night there. “After dinner, we had the honor of spending the night at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The next morning, we visited the Amrit Udayan, which was another memorable moment of our visit,” Sonu concluded, reflecting on the deep sense of honor and gratitude that marked this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
