New Delhi, 11 July 2024 : Shri Ravneet Singh Bittu, Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries, conducted a comprehensive performance review meeting of Northern Railway at Baroda House, New Delhi. The review emphasized critical aspects such as safety, punctuality, and cleanliness, alongside the redevelopment and upgradation of stations.
During the meeting, Minister Bittu evaluated the progress of station redevelopment initiatives under the Amrit Bharat Scheme and the One Station One Product (OSOP) scheme. He also reviewed ongoing infrastructure projects of national significance, including the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link Project (USBRL) and the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Rail Link Project. The Minister noted that out of the 272 km USBRL project, 209 km are already operational. He highlighted the project’s potential to significantly contribute to the economic development of Jammu & Kashmir by enhancing tourist footfall and providing affordable transport for goods, particularly benefiting fruit growers and traders.
The Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Rail Link project was also thoroughly reviewed. Minister Bittu emphasized that the project will facilitate easier access to pilgrimage centers in Uttarakhand, thereby boosting tourism in the state.
Shri Shobhan Chaudhuri, General Manager of Northern Railway, presented an overview of the railway’s various ongoing projects. The meeting was attended by other Principal Heads of Departments (PHODs).
Minister Bittu underscored the importance of prioritizing safety, punctuality, cleanliness, and infrastructure projects. He stressed the need for improving passenger amenities at stations and ensuring the safe operation of trains. His commitment to transforming Indian Railways into a modern and efficient network was evident throughout the meeting. He also praised the dedicated efforts of Northern Railway staff and expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved so far.
