IGNOU launches BSc Food Safety & Quality Management

New Delhi , 10 July 2024 :- Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)’s School of Agriculture has introduced a new degree program in food safety, titled BSc (Food Safety and Quality Management) (BSCFFSQM). This program, set to commence in the July 2024 session and offered in both the January and July sessions annually, marks IGNOU as the first university to provide a Bachelor’s degree in food safety and quality management. Designed to meet the educational needs of stakeholders in the food processing and food safety industry, the curriculum aims to equip students with essential knowledge and skills to uphold food safety and quality standards.

The program’s minimum duration is three years under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP), with a flexible maximum duration of eight years, allowing students to complete it at their own pace. Eligibility for enrollment requires candidates to have completed 10+2 with Science or Agriculture subjects or possess an equivalent qualification. This innovative programme is expected to address a significant gap in the education sector by providing specialized training to meet the growing demands of the food safety and quality management industry.
