NEW DELHI 6July 2024 : Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj convened a crucial meeting late Friday evening with officials from multiple departments to bolster the city’s preparedness against dengue as the monsoon season approaches. Key stakeholders present included representatives from Home & Family Welfare (H&FW), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), Public Works Department (PWD), Directorate of Education, Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), and Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC).
During the meeting, it was reported that 40 lakh pamphlets have been printed for widespread distribution among the public to raise awareness about dengue prevention. ASHA workers have undergone sensitization programs to educate residents about dengue awareness. Additionally, preparations for a radio jingle campaign have been finalized and will commence soon. The Health Minister was informed that genome sequencing of samples has been intensified to enhance disease surveillance and management.
The MCD provided updates during a detailed presentation highlighting increased efforts in schools under its jurisdiction, including distribution of dengue homework cards and intensified breeding site inspections across various departments.
Minister Bharadwaj directed the Special Secretary (Health) to include representatives from the Police and Cantonment Board in the next meeting to further streamline collaborative efforts.
The Directorate of Education informed the Minister about the issuance of an advisory in May and plans to release a second advisory in the second week of July. The Minister emphasized the importance of Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) scheduled for late July to disseminate dengue and malaria prevention guidelines to parents. Schools have been instructed to ensure students wear full-sleeve clothing, and dengue homework cards will be distributed.
Regarding private schools’ compliance with guidelines, the Health Minister instructed officials to implement rigorous monitoring and develop mechanisms to verify the completion of dengue homework assignments.
NDMC officials reported on the issuance of advisories and distribution of dengue homework cards, reinforcing the collective effort to combat mosquito-borne diseases.
DUSIB officials assured the Minister of ongoing surveillance and deployment of drainage pumps in JJ clusters to prevent mosquito breeding sites effectively.
DSIIDC officials shared measures undertaken to prevent water accumulation at industrial sites and educate laborers about preventive measures.
Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj reiterated the government’s commitment to proactive measures against dengue and called for continued vigilance and collaboration among all stakeholders to safeguard public health during the monsoon season.
