New Delhi, June 24,2024 As the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha commenced on Monday, leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc staged a protest in the Parliament premises, holding copies of the Constitution in their hands.
Prominent leaders including Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former party president Rahul Gandhi, and party president Mallikarjun Kharge participated in the protest. Congress leader KC Venugopal stated, “We are the guardians of democracy. We are committed to protecting and upholding the Constitution. We are united in our resolve to fight against injustice.”
The protesters raised slogans against the Narendra Modi-led government, accusing it of disrespecting the Constitution. Leaders of the Samajwadi Party, including Akhilesh Yadav and Dimple Yadav, also arrived at Parliament with copies of the Constitution in their hands.
On Monday and Tuesday, the newly-elected MPs will be administered the oath by Pro tem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab.
