Khargone , July 15: A 35-year-old woman has been arrested in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone district for allegedly murdering her husband after suspecting him of having an extramarital relationship. Police said the accused allegedly attacked her husband with an axe while he was asleep at their home and later tried to portray the incident as the work of an unknown assailant.

The incident took place in Bazar Khodra Chidiya village under the jurisdiction of Chainpur police station. The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Ida Dudwe. Following the murder, the victim’s brother lodged a complaint, prompting police to register a case and begin an investigation.

According to police officials, the woman initially claimed that an unidentified person had entered the house and killed her husband. However, investigators found inconsistencies in her statements during the course of the inquiry, leading them to examine the family’s domestic circumstances more closely.

As the investigation progressed, police reportedly uncovered evidence of frequent disputes between the couple. During sustained questioning, the accused allegedly admitted to committing the crime, claiming she believed her husband was involved with another woman and feared he intended to leave her and their children.

Police said the accused told investigators that ongoing marital conflict and concerns about being abandoned pushed her to take the extreme step. She allegedly carried out the attack during the night while her husband was asleep.

Officials further stated that the woman later concealed the truth because she feared retaliation from her husband’s family if her involvement in the killing became known.

The accused was produced before a local court, which remanded her to judicial custody. Police have continued the investigation and are completing the remaining legal formalities.

Authorities said the couple has nine children, including six daughters and three sons, with ages ranging from approximately two-and-a-half years to 16 years.
