New Delhi, March 7: An international conference on green hydrogen standards and safety protocols was held in New Delhi on February 27, 2026, bringing together experts and officials from India and the United Kingdom. The meeting aimed to enhance cooperation for the safe and large-scale development of green hydrogen technologies.
The event was organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy through the National Centre for Hydrogen Safety, in partnership with the British High Commission in India and World Resources Institute India.
Discussions were aligned with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which seeks to promote clean fuel production and establish a strong safety ecosystem across the hydrogen value chain, including production, storage, transportation, and end-use applications.
The inaugural session included senior representatives from regulatory bodies, research institutions, industry organisations, and standards agencies. Speakers highlighted the need for robust regulatory frameworks and internationally aligned safety standards to support future hydrogen infrastructure.
Technical sessions covered risk assessment methods, incident case studies, advanced monitoring technologies, and innovations such as AI-based safety systems. Regulatory perspectives were shared by national agencies responsible for safety compliance and standardisation.
The conference concluded with a joint commitment from both countries to deepen cooperation on standards development, regulatory capacity building, and safety protocols. Officials stated that the discussions would support ongoing efforts under the National Green Hydrogen Mission and contribute to building a globally competitive green hydrogen sector in India.
The event is expected to accelerate policy coordination and strengthen safety preparedness as green hydrogen adoption expands in the coming years.
