New Delhi, 29 November 2025 : Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta today distributed LPG connections to women beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) at a special programme organised in the Wazirpur area. The Chief Minister stated that the scheme is not merely a benefit but the beginning of a brighter, healthier life, a significant step for women’s well-being and environmental protection. She emphasised that this distribution represents not just a service, but a decisive measure to strengthen women’s dignity, health, and secure future.
The Chief Minister noted that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ujjwala Yojana has enabled more than 2.5 lakh families in Delhi to access smoke-free kitchens. She said that the initiative goes far beyond a simple shift in fuel; it is a transformative reform aimed at improving women’s health, reducing pollution, and enhancing domestic dignity. The scheme has encouraged households to adopt safe LPG in place of wood, coal and dung-based fuels. She added that the Delhi Government is working swiftly to eliminate pollution caused by such traditional cooking methods. Ensuring the availability of LPG in every household is not only a step towards safeguarding women’s health, but also a mission to advance Delhi towards cleaner air and a pollution-free future.

Highlighting the government’s commitment, the Chief Minister said that Delhi is determined to phase out wood- and coal-based cooking practices. To prevent the burning of wood during winter, security guards and night-shift workers are being provided with electric heaters. Awareness campaigns are also being conducted to encourage press workers to transition from coal-based irons to gas- or electricity-powered equipment, with the aim of completely eliminating the associated environmental hazards.

The Chief Minister further stated that the new LPG connections and cylinders provided under the Ujjwala Yojana will offer homemakers relief from kitchen smoke, creating safer homes and a healthier environment. The initiative will make a significant contribution to reducing indoor air pollution and help Delhi move towards a cleaner, more sustainable future. She congratulated all beneficiaries and assured them that wherever connections are yet to be provided, lists are being prepared to ensure that every eligible family receives the benefits of the Ujjwala scheme.
