Donald Trump Set to Be Sworn in as 47th US President; EAM Jaishankar to Attend Ceremony

New Delhi : Donald Trump will take the oath of office as the 47th President of the United States today in Washington, DC. The swearing-in ceremony will be conducted by US Chief Justice John Roberts and is scheduled to begin at 8:30 PM IST. Following the formal oath, Mr. Trump will deliver his inaugural address, marking the official transfer of power. Accompanying him, JD Vance will be sworn in as the Vice President of the United States.

The ceremony is set to witness a distinguished gathering of global leaders and prominent figures. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will represent India at the event, emphasizing the strong bilateral ties between India and the United States. Other notable international attendees include Argentina’s President Javier Milei, Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa, El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, and former leaders such as Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil and Mateusz Morawiecki of Poland.

The guest list also boasts influential business leaders and innovators, including Elon Musk (Tesla and SpaceX), Jeff Bezos (Amazon), Mark Zuckerberg (Meta), Tim Cook (Apple), and Sam Altman (OpenAI). Their presence underscores the pivotal role of innovation and technology in contemporary global partnerships.

Addressing his supporters at a pre-oath victory rally in Washington DC last night, the 78-year-old Trump expressed his gratitude and outlined his plans for immediate action upon assuming office. “Tomorrow begins a new era for America. We will sign several executive orders on Day One to address the challenges facing our great nation,” he declared to an enthusiastic crowd.

Trump’s upcoming term is anticipated to focus on issues such as immigration reform, economic revival, and strengthening international alliances.
