Rekha Gupta Distributes Bicycles to 200 Girls Under Vidya Vahini Yojana

New Delhi, August 10, 2026; Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta distributed bicycles to 200 Class 9 girls during the Monsoon Session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly under the Vidya Vahini Yojana, a government initiative focused on improving mobility for school students.

The bicycle distribution is part of a larger effort to make education more accessible for girls across the capital. For many students, travelling to and from school can be a daily challenge, particularly when schools are located at a considerable distance from home. Providing bicycles is intended to ease this difficulty and give students greater freedom in managing their daily commute.

The Vidya Vahini Yojana is being implemented with a focus on supporting girls at the secondary-school level. By improving access to transportation, the programme seeks to encourage students to attend school regularly and continue their education with fewer mobility-related obstacles.

This year, approximately 1.40 lakh Class 9 girls across Delhi are expected to benefit from the scheme. The large-scale distribution is aimed at extending the programme beyond a limited group of beneficiaries and bringing more students within its reach.

The government has positioned the Vidya Vahini Yojana as part of its broader education and empowerment measures. Apart from helping students travel to school, the initiative is expected to contribute towards greater independence among young girls and provide practical support during an important stage of their education.
