Governor Kavinder Gupta Promotes Local Handlooms on National Handloom Day, Urges Citizens to Support Artisans

New Delhi: “On National Handloom Day, Governor Kavinder Gupta visited the Himachal Emporium in New Delhi and encouraged citizens to support India’s weavers and artisans by purchasing locally made handloom and handicraft products.”

During his visit, the Governor purchased traditional handloom items and highlighted the importance of preserving India’s rich cultural heritage through indigenous craftsmanship. He said every handloom product represents the country’s traditions, cultural diversity and the spirit of self-reliance.

Extending greetings to weavers, artisans and those associated with the handloom sector, Shri Gupta praised their dedication and creativity in preserving India’s age-old crafts. He said supporting local products contributes to empowering artisan families, strengthening rural livelihoods, promoting women entrepreneurs and advancing the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Recalling the significance of August 7, the Governor said the day marks the launch of the Swadeshi Movement in 1905, which promoted the use of indigenous products and self-reliance. He added that the ideals of the movement continue to inspire the nation’s development journey.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal under the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative, Governor Gupta urged people to purchase at least one handloom product and actively contribute to the growth of India’s traditional artisans.

Highlighting Himachal Pradesh’s rich handloom and handicraft traditions, he said the state’s weavers and artisans are carrying forward a valuable legacy that reflects its unique culture and artistic excellence.

“Every purchase of a handloom product is an investment in our cultural heritage and the livelihoods of thousands of artisan families. Let us celebrate Indian craftsmanship by embracing indigenous handlooms and making them a part of our daily lives,” Shri Gupta said.
