Amit Shah Launches NAFEX.in, Ushering in a New Era of Transparent Agricultural Trade

NEW DELHI, 23 JUNE 2026: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Tuesday launched NAFED’s e-auction portal, NAFEX.in, along with three other digital initiatives—DRISHTI, ERP, and NAFED Kalyan—aimed at enhancing transparency, efficiency, and farmer welfare in the cooperative sector. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Minister of State for Cooperation Krishan Pal Gurjar, and other senior officials were present at the event.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Shah highlighted NAFED’s remarkable turnaround over the past decade. He said that in 2014, the organisation was on the verge of closure, but under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with government support, it has emerged as a financially strong institution serving over 74 lakh farmers, with a turnover of ₹30,000 crore and profits of around ₹500 crore.

The Home Minister stressed the need for direct procurement of pulses and other crops from farmers, eliminating intermediaries to ensure that the full benefits of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) reach cultivators. He said NAFED and NCCF have developed the required infrastructure over the last three years and should work towards enabling all farmers to sell their produce directly to these organisations within the next two years, with payments credited directly to their bank accounts.

Mr. Shah noted that NAFED has expanded beyond procurement into areas such as organic farming, seed production, bio-fertilisers, retail operations, food security, and international trade. He expressed confidence that NAFED’s turnover would cross ₹50,000 crore in the coming years.

A major announcement during the event was the launch of NAFED Kalyan, under which 1 per cent of NAFED’s profits will be earmarked for scholarships and career development opportunities for children of farming families.

Paying tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his Balidan Diwas, Mr. Shah recalled his contributions to national unity and integrity. He said Mookerjee’s vision of “One Nation, One Constitution” was fulfilled through the abrogation of Article 370, describing him as a leader whose efforts left a lasting impact on the country’s political and cultural landscape.
