New Delhi, June 12: Contemporary visual artist Aashima Mehrotra is presenting her solo exhibition, “Vanchana – Ek Vritaant,” at the Visual Art Gallery of India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The exhibition is being held from June 11 to June 15, 2026, and is open to visitors daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. The event brought together personalities from the fields of art, culture, governance, diplomacy and industry.
The exhibition revolves around the concept of “Vanchana,” a term associated with deprivation, longing and unfulfilled aspirations. Through a series of paintings, the artist explores emotional experiences such as exclusion, loss of identity, loneliness and the search for belonging.
The artworks examine how individuals respond to challenges and adversity. Rather than portraying deprivation only as suffering, the exhibition highlights resilience, self-discovery and personal transformation.
A central figure in the exhibition is a symbolic woman who represents countless individuals facing struggles, silence and sacrifice. Her story reflects universal human experiences of hope, endurance and renewal.
Through this visual narrative, the exhibition presents a journey from exclusion to inclusion and from despair to optimism. The artworks encourage viewers to reflect on their own experiences and emotional journeys.
Aashima Mehrotra’s artistic style combines abstraction, symbolism and figurative expression. Her works are influenced by spirituality, nature, cultural heritage and human emotions.
One of the highlights of the exhibition is her use of encaustic art, an ancient painting technique that involves heated beeswax, natural resins and pigments. This method creates textured and layered surfaces that add depth and richness to the artworks.
Visitors can also view mixed-media creations that showcase the artist’s experimentation with materials, textures and storytelling.
Apart from being a visual artist, Aashima Mehrotra is a senior officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS). Her artworks have been exhibited at prestigious venues in India and abroad and are part of several private collections.
Her work has been featured in the National Exhibition of Art organised by the Lalit Kala Akademi. She has also received recognition from institutions such as the Bombay Art Society and Chitramayee State Gallery of Art. The Government of Telangana has honoured her with a State Award for her contribution to visual arts.
“Vanchana – Ek Vritaant” goes beyond artistic display and encourages reflection on questions of identity, memory, belonging and human connection. Through its thought-provoking themes and visual storytelling, the exhibition offers visitors an engaging cultural experience.
The exhibition is expected to be one of the notable art events in the capital this season, attracting art enthusiasts, students, cultural practitioners and the general public alike.
