Amit Shah Launches Tushar Mehta’s Book, Highlights Strength of Judiciary and Democracy

New Delhi: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Saturday released Solicitor General Tushar Mehta’s book “The Bench, the Bar, and the Bizarre and The Lawful and the Awful” at an event held in the national capital. Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant and several distinguished guests were present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said India’s democratic system has become stronger over the past 76 years due to the combined contribution of the Constitution, judiciary and citizens. He stated that people trust the judiciary because it protects constitutional rights and ensures justice for every section of society.

The Home Minister said the real strength of democracy lies in maintaining balance among the legislature, executive and judiciary. He added that the Constitution was designed to create coordination and constitutional propriety among institutions rather than conflict.

Shah also stressed the need for the judiciary and executive to work together in identifying and removing loopholes in the system through a practical and time-bound roadmap. According to him, public trust in the justice system reflects both social stability and the character of a nation.

Praising Tushar Mehta’s book, Shah said it presents courtroom life through humour, satire and real-life experiences while preserving the dignity of the legal profession. He noted that the book also discusses future challenges that artificial intelligence and modern technology may bring to the judicial system.

During his speech, Amit Shah made an emotional reference to his mother, saying he used to touch her feet every day and still lights a lamp before her photograph after her passing. He said mothers hold a special place in Indian culture and every day in the country is dedicated to them.
