New Delhi, May 10, 2026: The national capital has been placed on high alert after Delhi Police received intelligence inputs indicating a potential terror attack threat targeting high security zones, including government buildings and political party offices in Lutyens’ Delhi.
According to officials, the Special Cell of Delhi Police acted on fresh inputs suggesting that the Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters could be among the possible targets. Security deployment around the premises and other sensitive locations in the capital has been significantly increased as a precautionary measure.
The alert follows the recent arrest of nine individuals linked to a network allegedly associated with Shahzad Bhatti, a Pakistan linked gangster. Investigators stated that the group was involved in cross border coordination and recruitment of operatives through social media platforms.
Police officials further revealed that the module was reportedly assigning tasks such as random firing at security personnel across northern India and the Delhi NCR region, along with facilitating arms trafficking activities.
A senior police officer said that the threat assessment has also taken into account previous incidents in the national capital, leading to enhanced vigilance against possibilities of car bomb attacks, improvised explosive devices, and suicide attack attempts.
Security arrangements have been strengthened not only at the BJP headquarters but also across key administrative buildings and high security zones in the city. Additional checks and surveillance measures have been put in place across Lutyens’ Delhi.
Officials confirmed that the situation is being closely monitored and all security agencies remain on high alert to prevent any untoward incident in the capital.
