New Delhi- A devastating fire tore through a residential building in Delhi’s Vivek Vihar locality during the early hours of Sunday, leaving at least nine people dead and several others injured. Authorities confirmed that rescue and search operations are still ongoing as teams continue to scan the affected structure for any remaining victims.
According to officials, the emergency call reporting the blaze was received shortly before 4 am, prompting a rapid response from the Delhi Fire Services. Multiple fire engines were rushed to the site, and firefighting efforts continued for several hours before the flames were brought under control.
The fire reportedly originated from household items and quickly spread across multiple flats in the building, intensifying the situation and trapping several residents inside. Firefighters managed to rescue over a dozen individuals, some of whom sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
Police officials stated that the operation was particularly challenging due to the building’s layout, which includes both front- and rear-facing flats, making access difficult during the emergency. Teams had to navigate through smoke-filled corridors and staircases while ensuring safe evacuation of residents.
After the fire was extinguished, rescue personnel recovered charred bodies from different parts of the building, including stairwells and residential units. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
Emergency services, including local police, disaster management teams, and traffic personnel, were deployed at the scene to manage the situation and assist in rescue operations. Officials have assured that a detailed inquiry is underway, and further updates will follow as the search continues.
