Man Arrested for Molestation While Assisting Woman with e-KYC Under Ladki Bahin Scheme

Woman alleges harassment by acquaintance who offered to fix e-KYC issues for Ladki Bahin scheme; accused arrested after complaint in Jalgaon

Jalgaon, April 13, 2026: A shocking incident has emerged from Jalgaon where a man was arrested for allegedly molesting a woman under the pretext of helping her complete the e-KYC process for a government welfare scheme, police officials confirmed.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Gokul Chavan, was known to the victim’s family. He reportedly approached the woman when she was alone at home and offered assistance in completing the mandatory e-KYC formalities for the Ladki Bahin scheme.

The scheme, launched by the Government of Maharashtra, provides financial aid of ₹1,500 per month to eligible women. The victim had allegedly been facing issues with her e-KYC, resulting in a halt in receiving benefits.

Taking advantage of the situation, the accused allegedly demanded sexual favours in return for his help and attempted to misbehave with the woman.

The woman informed her husband about the incident after he returned home. Subsequently, the couple approached the police and lodged a formal complaint.

Based on the victim’s statement, a case of molestation was registered, and the accused was taken into custody. Authorities have assured that further investigation is underway.

Reacting strongly to the incident, Rohini Khadse condemned the act and called for stringent punishment for the accused.

Meanwhile, Praveen Darekar stated that the government would ensure strict legal action is taken in the matter.

Following the incident, district officials have urged citizens to remain cautious and complete e-KYC procedures only through authorised centres or verified personnel. Authorities emphasized avoiding reliance on unauthorised individuals to prevent such incidents.
