Deep Ocean Mission Scientists Honoured by Dr. Jitendra Singh After Republic Day 2026 Parade

To celebrate the achievement of the Deep Ocean Mission the Ministry of Earth Sciences invited scientists and researchers and hosted lunch at the Ministry. Interacting with the gathering, Dr. Singh lauded the scientists for their relentless pursuit of knowledge and innovation, which has positioned India at the forefront of deep-sea exploration.

New Delhi, January 26, 2026: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh, hosted a special felicitation ceremony at Prithvi Bhawan to recognise the scientists and researchers contributing to India’s ambitious Deep Ocean Mission (DOM). The event followed their invitation as Special Guests at the Republic Day Parade 2026, marking national recognition of their scientific achievements.

The Ministry of Earth Sciences organised a luncheon in honour of the researchers, celebrating their role in strengthening India’s deep-sea exploration capabilities. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Singh praised the scientific community for their dedication, innovation, and commitment, stating that their work has helped place India among leading nations in ocean research and marine technology.

In a congratulatory message, Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, expressed pride in the Ministry’s journey and achievements. He highlighted that this was the first time the Ministry had been invited as a special guest to the Republic Day celebrations. Reflecting on nearly two decades of service, he noted the Ministry’s contributions in areas such as weather forecasting, climate services, ocean studies, polar research, and geosciences, which have significantly strengthened India’s scientific infrastructure.

The honoured scientists thanked the government for the recognition and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the objectives of the Deep Ocean Mission.

The event was also attended by Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), along with senior officials, researchers from allied scientific fields including biotechnology, space, atomic energy, and representatives from emerging technology startups.

The ceremony underscored India’s growing focus on ocean science and its vision to become a global leader in deep-sea research and sustainable marine resource development.
