Haryana Police Remove 67 Gangster Songs in Major Push Against Crime Glorification

Haryana Police STF removes 67 gangster songs from YouTube, Spotify and other platforms to curb crime glorification and protect youth from violent influences.

Chandigarh, January 13: In a strong action aimed at curbing the spread of gang culture and violence among young people, Haryana Police have taken down 67 songs from popular digital platforms for promoting organised crime and criminal lifestyles.

The action was carried out by the Special Task Force (STF) in coordination with the Cyber Crime Unit after an investigation revealed that several songs on platforms such as YouTube, Spotify, Amazon Music, Gaana and JioSaavn were glorifying gangsters, weapons and violence. Officials said these songs projected crime as glamorous and powerful, creating a misleading influence on impressionable youth.

Police authorities stated that such content has been contributing to the normalisation of violence and criminal behaviour, particularly among young listeners. Following the findings, the Haryana Police worked closely with digital platforms to remove or block the objectionable material.

Director General of Police (DGP) Haryana, Ajay Singhal, said the initiative was an important step to protect society and steer young people away from criminal influences. He emphasised that while these songs often portray criminals as role models, they hide the real consequences of crime, including imprisonment, loss of life and suffering of families. The DGP reiterated that the state police follows a zero-tolerance policy against any content that promotes criminal behaviour and appealed to artists and content creators to act responsibly.

Inspector General of Police (IG), STF, Satheesh Balan, said the police are also monitoring social media activity related to criminals. He noted that gangsters frequently use social media platforms to glorify themselves and attract or recruit youth, making surveillance of such content crucial to breaking the cycle of crime.

As part of preventive measures, the STF has also engaged with singers, lyricists and digital creators, advising them against promoting violence, gangster culture or the use of weapons through their work. Officials believe such content fuels fear, insecurity and criminal tendencies in society.

Alongside the digital crackdown, Haryana Police continue to take firm action against terror-gangster networks, including those with foreign links. In recent months, intelligence-based operations have led to several arrests and recoveries of explosives and illegal weapons, exposing attempts to destabilise security through local modules supported by overseas handlers.

Police officials said the combined strategy of removing online content that glorifies crime and dismantling organised criminal networks has significantly strengthened internal security in the state. The latest action, they added, reflects Haryana Police’s technological capability, social responsibility and commitment to maintaining law and order.
