Nuh: The district-level programme marking the 5th anniversary of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was organised at the conference hall of the Mini Secretariat. Presiding over the event, Deputy Commissioner Akhil Pilani said that the campaign launched five years ago by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a new direction to the lives of millions. He said the campaign has now evolved into a large and effective people’s movement.
Across the country, 7.39 lakh activities have been conducted, sensitising and educating over 23.22 crore people about the harmful effects of drug abuse. Among them, more than 7.82 crore youth and over 5.25 crore women have been active participants. Additionally, over 17.11 lakh educational institutions and more than 20,000 master volunteers have significantly contributed to its success. DC Pilani said that drug addiction harms not only an individual’s health but also the social fabric.

Through the de-addiction centre operating in Nuh district, many individuals are receiving treatment and rehabilitation. He mentioned that the campaign initially included 10 major districts including Rohtak, Sirsa, Sonipat, Hisar, Ambala, Fatehabad, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Panipat and Nuh. He added that various activities such as essay writing, rangoli competitions, raahgiri and marathon events are being organised to keep the youth away from drugs and help them understand the dangers of addiction. He emphasised that addiction is a disease that can be treated, and instead of rejecting those affected, they should be guided to de-addiction centres for proper treatment. DC said that complete eradication of drug abuse is possible only through collective efforts. Every citizen must take responsibility by informing any drug-affected person in their surroundings about its harmful consequences and encouraging them to quit. He appreciated the work done by different departments in the field of drug de-addiction. During the programme, DC Akhil Pilani administered an oath to all officers and employees against the use of intoxicants and urged them to take a firm resolve to make the state drug-free. The state-level programme organised at ITI Nagina was also heard online. On this occasion, District Social Welfare Officer Virender Yadav administered the de-addiction oath to the students present.
