India Achieves 2030 Clean Energy Target Five Years Early: Minister Sood

Delhi– Minister for Education and Power, Government of Delhi,  Ashish Sood  inaugurated the Yogi Goswami Clean Energy Laboratory at Delhi Technological University (DTU), terming it a milestone in India’s clean energy journey and a symbol of the country’s Atmanirbharta vision. On this occasion the Hon’ble Minister highlighted India’s clean energy achievements under the leadership of Prime Minister  Narendra Modi.

He said that India has achieved its 2030 target of 50% clean energy share by 2025, five years ahead of schedule. In June 2025, clean sources contributed 31% of national electricity while coal dependency dropped by 3%. India’s installed non-fossil fuel capacity now stands at 224.8 GW, including 117 GW solar and 51.7 GW wind energy. The implementation of solar power has grown by 4000% in the last decade, with 83% of power sector investments in 2024 directed towards clean energy.

The Minister emphasised that laboratories like DTU’s Clean Energy Lab will not only help students excel academically but also inspire startups, research, and innovations that can power Delhi and beyond. On Delhi’s progress, the Power Minister said that the Delhi Legislative Assembly is now the first in the country to run entirely on solar power (500 kW plant). Rooftop solar subsidies have been raised to ₹10,000 per kW in addition to central government support, making installations more affordable. Delhi is piloting zero-waste campuses in schools, particularly in CM Schools, to teach sustainability from an early age. The government has also established a Centre for Excellence in Energy Transition at DTU, focusing on e-mobility, energy storage, grid interface, and conservation.

He said that the laboratory being inaugurated is not just about research, it is about shaping India’s energy independence. Clean energy is not tomorrow’s dream, it is today’s responsibility. He highlighted that with DTU’s innovation, we will ensure Delhi becomes a national benchmark for sustainable, responsible and future-ready governance.
Education Minister concluded with gratitude to Prof. Yogi Goswami and D.D. Agarwal for their contribution and called upon DTU students to become the torchbearers of India’s clean energy future.

This laboratory has been established as a part of the Nodal Centre of Excellence in Energy Transition (NCEET), DTU with a generous contribution by Prof. Yogi Goswami, Distinguished Alumnus of DTU from the Class of 1969.
The event was also attended by Prof. Yogi Goswami, Distinguished Alumnus, Class of 1969, Dr. D.D. Aggarwal, Distinguished Alumnus, Class of 1967, Ms. Anjali Sehrawat, Director, DTTE, Prof. Prateek Sharma, Vice Chancellor, DTU, Prof. Narendra Kumar, Registrar, DTU and Prof. Vishal Verma, Director, NCEET, DTU.


The establishment of the Yogi Goswami Clean Energy Lab marks a critical step in DTU’s mission to contribute to the national visions and support the achievement of India’s Net-Zero target by 2070. The Lab is designed to serve as a hub for innovation, bringing academia, industry, and society together to develop practical and sustainable solutions for energy transition.
Vice Chancellor, DTU, Prof. Prateek Sharma, addressed and congratulated the DTU fraternity on the inauguration of the Yogi Goswami Clean Energy Laboratory at DTU. He offered his deepest gratitude to  Ashish Sood, Education Minister of Delhi, for his unwavering commitment towards improving the life of people. He emphasised the responsibility of engineers and scientists in ensuring that development becomes more sustainable, by taking up research in such areas and implementing innovative methods of responsible development.


Prof. D. Yogi Goswami, a distinguished alumnus of DTU, commended the university for its strong academic foundation and advanced laboratories. He emphasised that the future lies beyond finite resources, and highlighted the importance of sustainable alternatives. Expressing high hopes for DTU, he looks forward to supporting its journey toward becoming one of the top universities in the country.
Dr. Durga Das Agrawal, a famous DTU alumnus and creator of Piping Technology & Products in the USA, discussed his journey from Delhi Polytechnic to establishing a multinational firm in Houston. He praised Prof. Yogi Goswami’s pioneering contributions to clean energy and the creation of the Yogi Goswami Clean Energy Lab at DTU. He emphasised the new University of Houston-DTU academic connections and encouraged students to work hard, be hopeful, and give back to their communities.
DTU also had the rare honour of felicitating the Power Minister with the Distinguished Service Award for his extraordinary contributions to public service, enhancing educational opportunities, and improving urban infrastructure.
Prof. Narendra Kumar, Registrar, DTU extended heartfelt thanks to the distinguished guests :Mr. Ashish Sood for his unfailing support for DTU, and also thanked Dr. Durga Das Aggarwal, and Dr. Yogi Goswami for their kind presence at the event.
As part of his visit, the Minister also took a tour of the DTU Innovation & Incubation Foundation (DTU-IIF) and praised the impactful incubations and entrepreneurial initiatives being undertaken by the university. Sood further assured that the Delhi Government will extend full support and funding to budding entrepreneurs from DTU to encourage innovation and incubation.
The inauguration of the Yogi Goswami Clean Energy Laboratory stands as a significant milestone in DTU’s journey toward advancing clean energy research, technology development, and real-world implementation.
