New Delhi- Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, chaired a high-level consultation workshop in New Delhi today, aimed at charting innovative policy interventions for sustainable national highway development. The workshop saw participation from Union Minister of State Ajay Tamta,  Harsh Malhotra, along with senior officials from State Governments and Municipal Corporations.

The discussions underscored the Government’s commitment to building world-class and environmentally sustainable road infrastructure, particularly to address the growing challenge of traffic congestion in expanding urban areas.

One of the key policy priorities highlighted was the construction of ring roads and bypasses to divert heavy traffic away from city centres. This move is expected to decongest National Highways passing through cities, thereby improving safety, reducing pollution, and ensuring faster travel.

The workshop also explored value capture financing models to support sustainable funding for road projects, and stressed on integrating highway development with city master plans for holistic and future-ready urban mobility.

With these measures, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to not just faster connectivity, but also to inclusive, eco-friendly, and planned urban development that complements India’s economic growth.
