New Delhi, July 23: In a significant move to support inclusive and inspirational cinema, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday announced that Anupam Kher’s directorial Tanvi The Great will be tax-free across Delhi. The announcement was made via her official handle on X (formerly Twitter), garnering praise from citizens and film enthusiasts.
Sharing the decision, CM Gupta wrote, “I am pleased to share that the Delhi Government has declared the film Tanvi the Great tax-free in the state. With an impactful narrative of inclusion, the film is an inspiring story of a young, ‘special’ girl—Tanvi—who is determined to achieve her dreams against all odds.”
The film, which focuses on the themes of autism, patriotism, and women empowerment, has already created ripples across film festivals worldwide. Its protagonist, a young autistic girl played by Shubhangi Dutt, aspires to follow in her late father’s footsteps and join the Indian Armed Forces. The film also features veteran actors including Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Karan Tacker, Arvind Swami, and British actor Iain Glen.
Anupam Kher, who not only directed but also acted in the film, expressed gratitude for the government’s support. CM Rekha Gupta also shared a photo with Kher and actor Shubhangi Dutt from the film’s recent screening held in the capital.
Emphasizing the film’s nationalistic message, CM Gupta added, “We are committed to promoting films that strengthen the spirit of Rashtra Seva, ignite patriotism, and awaken the conscience of the nation. Best wishes to the entire team of the film.”
Earlier this week, the Madhya Pradesh Government led by CM Mohan Yadav also declared Tanvi The Great tax-free in the state following a special screening in Bhopal.
Produced by Anupam Kher Studios in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), Tanvi The Great has received accolades at international film festivals in Cannes, New York, London, and Houston. It also earned standing ovations during special previews at India’s National Defence Academy and the Southern Command in Pune.
With official recognition now from multiple state governments, Tanvi The Great is fast emerging as one of the year’s most celebrated films—both artistically and socially.
