Actor Vikrant Massey, who rose to fame with critically acclaimed roles in 12th Fail, Chhapaak, and A Death in the Gunj, has finally addressed the long-standing insider vs outsider debate in Bollywood. In a recent interview, the actor brushed aside the narrative, calling it “overhyped social media chatter” that doesn’t reflect the ground reality in the film industry.
“This is all social media talk—done mostly by people sitting outside the industry,” Massey said in an interview with Screen. “If you are part of the fraternity, nobody looks at it that way. At least I can speak for myself. I am a so-called outsider, and yet I’ve never felt that kind of discrimination.”
Starting his career on television before transitioning to films, Vikrant Massey is widely recognized as a self-made star who built his success through talent and persistence rather than industry connections. His views add a grounded voice to the nepotism discourse that often dominates social media platforms and industry discussions.
Vikrant will next be seen in Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan opposite debutante Shanaya Kapoor. Directed by Santosh Singh and written by Mansi Bagla, the film explores an emotional bond between a visually impaired man (played by Massey) and a theatre artist experimenting with blindness. The film’s trailer dropped this week and has been receiving positive attention for its unique storyline and heartfelt performances.
“Real success depends on consistency, not connections,” Massey said, hinting that hard work and talent still carve a path in the industry, regardless of one’s background.
The film is set to release in theatres on July 11.
