Maharashtra: Nagpur Violence Under Control, Police Arrest 50 Suspects

Maharashtra : The law and order situation in Nagpur, which witnessed violence on Monday night, is now under control, according to District Police Commissioner Dr. Ravindra Singal. Authorities have registered five cases and arrested 50 individuals so far in connection with the incidents of arson, stone pelting, and clashes that disrupted normalcy in the city.

To address the situation, Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule convened a high-level meeting with district officials to review the security arrangements and assess the damage caused by the violence. He also visited the affected areas, engaging with local residents and ensuring that relief measures were in place.

The Nagpur police, in an effort to restore confidence among citizens, conducted a route march in sensitive areas last night. The march aimed to reassure the public about their safety and demonstrate the administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and harmony. Commissioner of Police Dr. Singal stated that a decision on relaxing the curfew will be made after a thorough assessment of the current situation.

As part of the ongoing security efforts, Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which prohibits any public gatherings, has been imposed in 11 zones of Nagpur city. This legal provision is intended to prevent further unrest and maintain order in the violence-affected regions.

Meanwhile, the district administration has begun assessing the damages inflicted on public and private properties due to arson and vandalism. Officials are documenting the extent of the destruction to ensure that necessary assistance can be provided to affected individuals and businesses.

Residents of Nagpur have expressed concerns over the unrest, urging authorities to take strict action against those responsible. Community leaders and local representatives have called for peace and cooperation to prevent further escalation of violence.

The police have urged citizens to refrain from spreading rumors or misinformation that could incite further tensions. Strict monitoring of social media platforms is being undertaken to curb the spread of inflammatory content.

With security forces remaining vigilant and a temporary curfew in place, authorities are working towards a gradual return to normalcy. The coming days will determine whether additional measures will be needed or if restrictions can be eased to facilitate daily activities in the city.
