India-Maldives Defence Ministers to Strengthen Ties in Key Bilateral Talks This Wednesday

New Delhi, Jan 7, 2025: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to meet his Maldivian counterpart, Defence Minister Mohammed Ghassan Maumoon, for a bilateral discussion in New Delhi on Wednesday. The upcoming talks will focus on strengthening various aspects of defence cooperation between India and the Maldives, which plays a pivotal role in India’s strategic partnerships in the Indian Ocean region (IOR). The two ministers are expected to review several ongoing defence initiatives, including collaborative training programs, joint military exercises, defence projects, and knowledge-sharing workshops. These efforts aim to further enhance the capabilities of the Maldives National Defence Forces (MNDF). Additionally, the ministers will discuss the supply of defence equipment and stores, with an emphasis on supporting the Maldives’ military modernization and operational readiness.
