Bihar : The nationwide strike led by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has severely disrupted health services across Bihar. Both government and private hospitals have been affected by the protests, which stem from a recent incident at Kolkata Medical College and Hospital.
Junior and resident doctors from various state medical colleges, including AIIMS Patna, have taken to the streets, demanding better safety measures and addressing other issues related to their working conditions.
The impact on patients has been substantial, with emergency and outpatient department (OPD) services forcibly closed at major institutions like Patna Medical College and Hospital, Nalanda Medical College and Hospital, and Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Patna.
The strike has also led to the postponement of numerous critical surgeries at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital in Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital, Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur, and Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital in Gaya.
The ripple effect of the strike is evident across other medical facilities in the state, where services remain crippled. The ongoing protests have significantly affected the delivery of medical care, leaving patients in a challenging situation as healthcare services remain disrupted.
