Himachal Pradesh CM Meets Union Minister for MPP and Power, Discusses Key State Issues

New Delhi, July 16, 2024 : Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu held a crucial meeting with Union Minister for MPP (Ministry of Power and Power) Manohar Lal Khattar today in New Delhi to address pressing issues concerning the state.

Chief Minister Sukhu urged the Union Minister to intervene in restoring the rights of the Shanan Power Project to the state, highlighting that the lease period has expired and advocating for a mutually agreeable resolution. He also emphasized the urgent need for the release of pending shares from the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), which have been awaited for several years and are causing financial losses to Himachal Pradesh.

Additionally, Chief Minister Sukhu sought the Union Minister’s support for the establishment of a mega solar park in Spiti, underscoring its potential to significantly enhance the state’s renewable energy capacity.

Union Minister Khattar assured Chief Minister Sukhu of his commitment to addressing these issues and directed concerned officials to take necessary actions.

Accompanying Chief Minister Sukhu during the meeting were Principal Advisor Ram Subhag Singh, Principal Secretary Finance Devesh Kumar, Resident Commissioner Meera Mohanty, and senior officers from the Ministry.

The meeting underscored Himachal Pradesh’s efforts to resolve longstanding issues related to power projects and advance its renewable energy ambitions through collaborative efforts with the central government.
