IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall Warning; Heatwave May Persist in West Rajasthan

New Delhi : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather warnings predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places across several regions today. Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to experience intense rain showers, posing potential risks of flooding and disruption.

Additionally, the IMD has forecasted very heavy rainfall over the next two days in states including Assam, Meghalaya, Interior Karnataka, Konkan, Goa, Central Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Telangana. These regions should remain alert to sudden weather changes, with the possibility of waterlogging in low-lying areas and travel disruptions.

Similar weather conditions are anticipated in Gangetic West Bengal, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, and Vidarbha, where moderate to heavy rainfall may continue, supporting the ongoing monsoon activity in these parts of the country.

The IMD also highlighted a different weather pattern in northern India, where Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. Residents in these areas are advised to take precautions against sudden storms and power outages.

Meanwhile, in stark contrast to the wet weather in other regions, west Rajasthan is expected to experience heatwave-like conditions. The weather department has predicted that the maximum temperature will rise by about 2-3 degrees Celsius over Northwest India in the next two days, leading to extreme heat stress, particularly in parts of Rajasthan. The forecast urges people to stay hydrated, avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours, and take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.

The varying weather patterns across India reflect the complex dynamics of the ongoing monsoon season, which continues to bring much-needed rains to some regions while others grapple with rising temperatures. The IMD urges citizens and local authorities to remain vigilant and prepared for sudden changes in weather, especially in vulnerable areas prone to flooding or heatwaves.
